Bringing desert drama to a cool, wet climate

My name is Alice Fleurkens . think my astonishment when I visited my brother - in - law ’s theatre in the Netherlands and discovered that he had turn his very tiny backyard into an Arizona haven . He had been there and fuck that landscape so much that he decided he want it for his backyard .

Gravel mulch and plants that look like they would be at home in a much warm climate produce the illusion of Arizona in the Netherlands . The climate of the two position could hardly be more different , with much of the Netherlands getting more than three multiplication as much rain as Phoenix , Arizona , and the usual atmospheric condition in the Netherlands being cool and cloudy rather than sunny and dry . But with measured design and plant choices , you could mime the spirit of just about any mood , no matter where you garden . Potted palms add to the essence , and , of track , can be moved to sheltered spots tooverwinter .

vast yucca industrial plant give a desert look , but they can accommodate to many climates . The large one in the meat looks to beYucca rostrata , which is audacious to Zone 5 , supply it has good drain , and will develop a tall bole over meter .

This huge laurel wreath Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is probablyTrachycarpusfortunei , which is one of the most cold - hardy palm trees and will thrive even in clime with cool summer , like that of the Netherlands . It is dauntless to Zone 7 .

More yucca and an adobe brick wall complete the illusion of a garden in the southwestern United States .

A tremendous small spot to sit and enjoy thisdesert gardenin a cool , wet place .
