It ’s so sad to ascertain the garden go dormant . Yet I love thefall colors .
There was still a lot of green in the garden when Maxine took these photos , but one of the standby of the dusk garden , theAutumn Joy sedum(Hylotelephiumspectabile‘Herbstfreude ’ , Zones 3–9 ) is in full blooming , much to the delight of gardeners andpollinatorsalike .

Here the sedum is flanked by two other garden stalwarts : dark - eyed Susan ( Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 3–9 ) in the back and ajuga ( Ajugareptans , Zones 3–10 ) in the front .
The garden is begin to take on rosey , golden hue as the time of year slips into declivity .
A clump of variegated sedge ( Carexoshimensis , Zones 5–9 ) takes center phase , its colourful foliage see sound all season .

This fall - bloomingclematisis either the nativeClematisvirginiana(Zones 3–8 ) or the similar - face AsianClematisternatifolia(Zones 5–9).Clematis ternatifoliacan beinvasivein some part of the United States , soClematisvirginianais a better choice for most gardens in this country .
A whitefall - blooming anemone(Anemonehupehensis , Zones 4–8 ) brings fresh heyday to the colors of capitulation . These anemones can spread rapidly when felicitous , so they are best suited to larger garden .
The cheery white-hot flush of the Montauk daisy ( Nipponanthemumnipponicum , Zones 5–9 ) come in the fall , over the shrubby , almost succulent foliage .
