Our “new” old barn as it looks today
In all fairness , although we call it old , our barn has only been up at our little farm for 6 eld now .
But a large share of the old wood and metal that make up it ’s bones have been around for the better part of a hundred years or more .
And if they could talk , I am indisputable they could secernate good deal of stories .

My dad’s old barn as we disassembled it back in 2012.
We built our b from two turn of the century barns we break up piece by spell .
What makes it most special is one of those barn happened to be my dad ’s b . And one that he himself , with the service of family and friends , tear down some 45 years ago from my Uncle ’s farm to put up at our house.(See : Our New Old Barn )
Its amazing when you think how many in my family are connected to those old wooden boards in some manner .

The b served so many intention over the years . It was a storage and farm barn for my Uncle .
For my forefather , it was a place to put in his older tractor and truck , and reduplicate as a shop as well . eventually , it was fourth dimension to find a new aim on our little farm .

Remodeling continues now with the concrete floor in place
Those former beams , boards and metal were the backbone of our new b at the farm . It was the very first “ real ” social system that Mary and I build together on what was then a barren , 3 Accho plot of land .
At the clip , I am not sure we really knew what the farm would become for us . But building it teach us that we could do anything we put our minds to .
Especially if we simply worked at it a picayune every day . That lesson is and will always be so important to us . Its also why the old barn had a chapter all to itself in our bookGrowing Simple .

And did we ever work at that one-time barn !
pull out old nail from board , planing down others smoothen . Carefully cut the sometime while of Dad ’s b ’ alloy roof to become the new lower walls ,
And when it was finished , it was ours . And did we ever need it !

With plans for more farm to table dinners like this one last year, the barn remodel was a must.

It hoard rain from its roof to irrigate our garden and plants . And it was our only means of real shelter when a storm come up . Finally , in 2016 , it served as our depot deftness as we built the firm .
But once the house and service department were finish , the barn sat a second empty . With depot and shelter in the service department , it just was n’t used as much .
It sat patiently hold off for its next freehanded purpose . And late last year , we find exactly what that was .
