Reclaiming a garden from ivy

I live in Puyallup , Washington . I be active here 20 year ago to a K overgrown with English ivy(Hederahelix , Zones 5–9 ) and elephantine , spindly , overgrown rhododendrons . All the hard body of work has been worth it . Needless to say , you are never done with a garden . There are always new plants to contribute and empty spaces to fill .
I rescued this Japanese maple(Acerpalmatum , Zones 5–9 ) from my crony - in - law . It was in a pot with brown leaves , and we were certain it was stagnant . I cut the dead branches off , repotted it , and keep it water well . To my astonishment , it start sprouting . Today , 12 years later , it has change from a dead joint to a beautiful tree with year - round of drinks sake . I do n’t know the variety , but I would wish to .

Here ’s a view of doublefile viburnum(Viburnumplicatumf.tomentosum‘Mariesii ’ , Zones 5–8),Fothergilla , ‘ Esk Sunset ’ maple(Acer psedoplatanus‘Esk Sunset ’ , Zones 5–8 ) , and arhododendronthat was a gift from my female parent - in - law , who get me begin garden .
