Cynthia save :
“ We were soooooo ignorant ! We quit using straw on our garden years ago because it was all no - till , sprayed with glyposate to dry out down before harvesting . Stunted my Allium sativum one class . We switched to hay , purchased from a local good - ol - boy feed store , imported from nearby Tennessee because there ’s not a passel of hay available here in the quite a little . thing go fine for a few geezerhood . Until 2019 . We had beautiful tomatoes , conjure up from seed . Planted about 70 in our high tunnel . A few calendar week subsequently , we mulch with hay we purchased . Within a few week , I started find strange growth – curled leaves , nearly raw stems , fasciation on some stems , cherry tomato branches with hundreds of blossoms . At first I think it was disease but finally earn it was toxin and the culprit believably the hay . We did get some harvest but quit merchandising to our client who expect constitutional produce . We take the hay and hoped all would go well this year . Three week ago , we planted our 2020 crop in the same place . Now I really feel stupefied . I did n’t see your post when I researched last year , and did n’t learn about Grazon . A billet by U of Georgia sent me look for Grazon information today and I saw your title from 2015 . Our tomatoes are , of form , already showing symptoms . We ’ll limp through , but not sell . Our one hope is that I implant our determinate tomato in another place outside the burrow . This outer space also had some hay mulch which killed my pole beans last year , but it was not under plastic and after remove the contaminated hay , it was exposed to rain all winter . I do n’t yet see any signal in these tomato plant , but they were planted two hebdomad later . Two days ago , I take all my “ leftover ” tomato plants and made a wrangle out in the open garden where no hay mulch was used . We normally plant love apple in tunnel due to blight . I am also planting all of my leftover peppercorn plants out in the open , unpolluted garden . Jeez . Our burrow ’s plastic is erstwhile . If my determinates do alright in the flushed grease ( now recovered with charge plate hoophouse ) , we will be sure to absent the plastic from the high tunnel and rent it flush out next wintertime . I just hope that does it . Sickening . ”
reckon , this stuff is vicious . Do not buy in hay , wheat or manure . Do not bring in compost . You have tomake your own compost instead .
