This preceding weekend , we spend the twenty-four hour period take a shit dwelling house - made alimentary paste bean with my mom , my sister and brother - in - law . Mary and I both grew up with parents who made fresh pasta , and although I am trusted we both may have been “ little supporter ” in our youthfulness – this was truly the first clip for either of us to really get wind the artistic creation . The good part of all , was in addition to make unbelievable fresh pasta – we see so much more about the past times . ( formula is at the end of the post )

The recipe itself is simple . Two canonical ingredient . orchis , and flour – with about 1 egg for every cup of flour . It ca n’t get more dim-witted than that – and it ’s easy to see why pasta of all type has eat many a propagation of hungry people . It ’s cheap and easy to make – and it filled you up !

On this day we had the privilege of using my mother ’s alimentary paste Jehovah . It was import from Italy over 65 years ago as a wedding present from my Italian gran to my then newlywed ma . As the day unfolded – I became amazed at just how many things my mom still used and that still looked and worked so well from those former years .
In plus to the pasta maker , we beat the eggs and mixed flour in brightly dark vintage Pyrex mixing bowling ball , and bring the gelt on an quondam wooden pie board that was a hymeneals shower bath present .

If that was n’t enough – we rolled and cut shekels out on a Graeco-Roman cherry red-faced kitchen table from the 50 ’s – in the extra downstairs kitchen my father had build for mom , everlasting with their matching vintage refrigerator and oven .

We joked with my mom that all of her quondam “ thing ” are so “ in ” right now – but after spending the day working with everything – it ’s comfortable to see why that ’s the case . There is no mistaking the quality and workmanship build into the tools and appliances of our parents and grandparents era . Things were built to last , and taken care of by a generation who prise what they had . Something that I think our contemporaries should and could learn a lot from .

So while we rolled the dough through the auto – We got to hear great stories about how my nanna would make mountains of pasta flop on the kitchen table – and all about grown Sunday dinner of the past tense , consummate with spaghetti , fried chicken and of grade , homemade wine-coloured .
We finished the day with a great family trend spaghetti banquet – top with alimentary paste sauce we had canned from our garden – and yes a little wine too ( someday , hopefully we can use one of our own bottles ! ) It matte up like after all that pasta we should have let in a nap as well !
All joking aside – this twenty-four hours will go down as a front-runner . Spending time with kin , passing on formula , hearing taradiddle of the past times and enjoying great place - made food – that is something no amount of money can ever bribe – and something I will treasure for the repose of my life .

We also get a line some valuable lessons from my mom in keeping a pasta political machine working . Never ever use any character of water to clean it . And never use salt in the loot . If you follow those two simple rules … you terminate up with one vintage automobile that can crank up out a lot of attic in it ’s lifetime .
