On Sunday and Monday of this week , we look the Homesteading Life Conference in Hannibal Missouri . This is an one-year event organized by Doug and Stacy , and both my son Ezekiel and I gave presentations . He talk on his landrace watermelon labor , and I speak on composting and Grocery rowing Gardening .
It was an excellent consequence with loads of wonderful people – and the town of Hannibal is excellent . It ’s the habitation townsfolk of Mark Twain so we spent Tuesday visiting his boyhood plate and other sites from his life . We also got to see multiple original Normal Rockwell painting at the Mark Twain Museum .
After that , however , we had a little more time so some of the older children and I walk around the shops of downtown . There we visitedLydia ’s Cabinet of Curiosities , which is a fantastically uncanny storehouse . The owner restored house painting and had quite a bizarre collection of artifacts for sales agreement .
Somehow , we stop up talk about gardening , and he note uprise pawpaws , and partake with me that a woodlet of uncivilized Asimina triloba was place just a unretentive length away at Riverside Park , near the playground alongside a creek by the Mississippi . He also mentioned that he had find Native American artifacts in the region .
I thank him and we walked back to our Air BnB , where I pull together up the whole family and have them to the parking area .
While Rachel watch most of the vernal children at the resort area , some of the older ones joined me on a hunt , both for arrowhead and pawpaws .
Though we did n’t discover arrowheads , we did find tons of pawpaws :
unluckily , we were too other in the season , but I ’m hoping we get enough ripen after the fact to give us viable seeds .
Pawpaw tree are a native North American tree diagram mintage which is one of the few fruit tree to flower and yield in the shade , pass water it a very good intellectual nourishment timberland species . If you live in a place with some shade , decent rain , and not super red-hot or super cold , pawpaw trees will probably fit into your garden .
