Stan Hobbs has attempted to create a relaxing woodland dwelling blank space — mission accomplished !
" There is an elegant firm / garden in Hakone , Japan with the beautiful name “ flower , mist dwelling lieu ” . We have attempted to incorporate these qualities in a small woodland saunter garden using both aboriginal and non - native plants . The result is a relaxing retreat with many Nipponese features and a strong Nipponese aesthetic . The palette is restrained with an accent on form and texture rather than color . stone , moss , and a variety of ground covering form a background knowledge for flowering bush including azaleas , rhododendrons , and ahead of time - blossom bleeding hearts and bellwort . Ferns , host , ginger , and shade - large-minded grass bring in various shade of putting green . Several species of Nipponese maples add geomorphological interest . Oliver Stone lanterns , a small koi pond , and tsukubai reward the Japanese theme . The principle garden is planted beneath a stand of cherry-red oaks whose mass and age bestow a sense of permanence and protection to the space . The wide-ranging scent of fragrant viburnums , clethera and oriental lilies permeate the garden as they descend into salad days throughout the summer . "
Included are several representative photographs of the garden in mid July . The garden is locate in Glenville , NY 12302 .
