One small tree makes a big impact in this colorful fall garden
Hi GPODers !
Yesterday we see some beautiful industrial plant confining - ups from Lila Johnson in Mill Creek , WA . I wo n’t re-create Lila ’s total intro ( be sure to go back if you missed it ) , but one pertinent paragraph was the pursuit :
Right now the “ star ” is the coral barque maple(Acer palmatum‘Sango Kaku ’ , Zones 5–8)in full yellow mode . We have it uplit at night and it truly is a champion . And when the leaves are gone , that coral barque is incredible . I cerebrate the winter prison term is my favorite time for this tree , it stands out when all else is done for the season .

I did n’t include any photo of this minor but mighty tree diagram in yesterday ’s post , so I ’m kicking off with it today .
Lila certainly did not over - hype the vibrancy of her incredible coral barque maple , and the beautiful blue locoweed that ride in front is the double-dyed direct contrast to the foliage ’s gilded chromaticity . The diminutive fuchsia in the lower remaining corner look to be Lila ’s new ‘ Neon Tricolor ’ fuchsia ( Fuchsia‘Neon Tricolor ’ , Zones 7–9)we saw yesterday . On the right , a pinkish geranium continues to put on a fantastical floral show .
Even from afar , the coral barque maple perfectly overlook the panorama with its outrageous color .

Of of course , Lila ’s Full Moon Nipponese maple ( Acer japonicum , Zones 5–7 ) on the paired side of the arbor is also a show - conversation stopper . We saw some capital scene of this tree yesterday , but this perspective reveals the stunning palm tree diagram near by . look like it ’s a hardy windmill palm ( Trachycarpusfortunei , Zones 7–11 ) , which would make sense for Lila ’s locale .
Lila ’s garden has just about everything you could need in an autumn garden . blossom still blooming , foliage frisk sensational color , and even source heads add together even more interest group . These might be crocosmia seeded player pods .
Anotherhardy fuchsia(Fuchsia magellanica , Zones 6–9 ) in Lila ’s garden add more beautiful pink and purples to her fall garden . Paired with the palm tree , these sheer colors fetch a tropical flare to more traditional PNW plantings .

Full Moon Nipponese maple in background behind the pergola .
Vine maple(Acercircinatum , zona 5–9)(27 years old ) , ‘ Little Lime ’ panicle hydrangea(Hydrangea paniculata‘Jane ’ , Zones 3–8),and 27 twelvemonth old rhody and azalea .
Our coral barque Nipponese maple , uplit last night ! 2025-03-10
