Just like pairing wine with food, vegetables can be matched with their most compatible herbs
It was while I was getting ready to implant a packet of basil seeded player with my ‘ Sungold ’ tomatoes that it hit me . I ’ve been planting my garden for years by equalise vegetable with herbs just like pairing wine with intellectual nourishment .
I always add a few St. Basil the Great plant life to my containers of tomatoes to improve their taste . But I also plant basil because I use it in so many of my tomato recipes , from pasta primavera to tomato and basil soup to a simple collection plate of sliced saucy love apple drizzled with extra virgin olive oil .
This preferred pairing of mine solve so well together , I started suppose about other vegetable and herbaceous plant combination I always found in the garden .

Whenever I implant cucumbers for pickling , like ‘ Miss Pickler ’ or ‘ Bush Pickler ’ , I make certain I plant Anethum graveolens and garlic for kosher dill . Fennel is planted to make fresh gherkin .
Cauliflower could n’t be made into the pickled condiment escabeche without the herbaceous plant oregano , marjoram , and thyme .
I check that there ’s a mountain of Italian parsley grow on the patio to use with easy - to - grow Italian paste tomatoes , like crimson pear or ‘ Roma ’ . This combination , along with a little oregano , makes a flavorful garden - fresh tomato plant sauce for alimentary paste or pizza pie .

Another democratic combo is tomatillo planted with coriander plant to use in a salmagundi of Mexican food lulu , including salsa and sauce . The cilantro can also duplicate in manipulation as coriander once the herbaceous plant run to seed .
Sage is implant to pair with celery for sweet summertime range - top stuffings , tasty chilled soups , or salads with mixed greens .
Oregano is the herb I seem to use most with courgette , particularly when mixed into this recipe :

Stuffed Zucchini Grillers
