Hyderabad ’s award - come through greening opening move service as an inspiration for cities around the world to utilize the mightiness of plants to benefit the lives of their citizens . The Indian metropolis was the focus of the third AIPH Green City Briefing , where participant explore their flagship tree - planting program .

Organized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers ( AIPH ) in collaboration with the Worshipful Company of Gardeners ( WCoG ) and buy at Expo 2023 Doha Qatar , the Green City Briefings 2022/23 are a serial publication of one - hour webinars focussing on cities around the world that demonstrate meaning progress in including industrial plant and nature in their city ’s form and function .

The third school term in the serial feature Hyderabad , India , Grand Winner of the inaugural AIPH World Green City Awards . Their winning opening move title ‘ Green Garland to the State of Telangana ’ also won the family of ‘ Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth . ’

“ We strongly think in sustainable urbanisation , and that greenery is integral to any form of urban growth which takes place , ” said Arvind Kumar , Special Chief Secretary , Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department , Government of Telangana .

The Green Garland initiative has been a drive force for planting trees in the area . In the last four year , 2.3 million sapling have been imbed , with a survival rate of more than 90 percent .

Mass tree planting takes on a different signification for Bishop Ngobeli , who also spoke at the briefing . Bishop is the Manager of Protected Areas and Enforcement at Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo . In South Africa , the lack of rejuvenation in certain metropolis areas is one of the many essence of the country ’s account of segregation .

Responding to the theme of this Green City Briefing of social inclusivity , Bishop explain : “ South Africa continue to be hampered by the bequest of racial segregation , poverty , and elision from social and economic chance . That ’s why we want to plant trees , so we can bridge the water parting . ”

To readdress historic spatial planning for young generations , South Africa is developing national , provincial , and local spacial model to allow green areas to communities that have not had accession before .
