Today ’s photos are from Stacey Preble from just south of Boston , Massachusetts . Stacey says,“The footing behind my garden is that I need something that was big , colored and tropical looking at , but that was sustainable up here in zone 5 .
“ I research quite a act and read every cartridge / Christian Bible / article that I could get my hand on . My 12 base Japanese fiber bananas were the catalyst that I could make this happen , and the rest they say , is history . My husband and I travel to the tropical zone every winter and I just love the profuse hobo camp feel that one go in Hawaii or the Caribbean . I wanted to emulate that experience and ramp up a garden where you palpate that you are but a bug in that garden .
“ I guess you could say I love a challenge . My garden is like go on vacation every prison term I walk out to the backyard . The front of my house is unobjectionable in its landscaping . Traditional pastel discolor New England landscaping that does n’t shout at the neighbor as they walk by – but come out back and get assaulted by red-hot color of red , orange and xanthous ! Leaves as long as your legs , giant dinner party plate dahlia , and intrepid Disco Belle hibiscus continue the experience . It all coincides with the outdoor kitchen / dining area / bar that my hubby so like an expert built around my tropical theme .

“ We have a dire coyote problem , so we have a 6 - foot - tall fence surround the contiguous backyard . I know they are a protected mintage , but I have been chamfer down 3 times while mowing the lawn , and I do n’t need a fourth time to know they mean business ! so as to hide the fence I grow grapeshot along the fencing and it expertly disguises the vileness of the fence , while cater yield . I also intersperse Lycopersicon esculentum plant and peppercorn plant along with whatever else I am growing that year in with my garden plants . This takes guardianship of the issuance of rotate crops , because where ever they are now wo n’t be available next year due to the growth of the perennial !
“ I am currently uproot 1/3 of my garden and moving it back 25 feet where we pushed out the fence and elaborate it . It never looks the same two years in a run-in , and I get it on to pass winters rearrange in my mind where everything is pass away to be placed . I also add a few real tropicals just for a pop of color such as Tropicanna cannas and elephant ears .
The best compliment I have ever incur was from one of my brother - in - jurisprudence , who comment “ If someone told me that I was in Hawaii in good order now , I would honestly believe them ! ” Mission fulfill . ”

So cool , Stacey – it really does calculate like a tropical garden ! But wait . Hold up . CHASED BY COYOTES ? ? What the heck is up with that ? ? chilling !
