Baby bunny takeover

Although I would n’t call my get up garden bed romanticistic , the rabbits in my neighborhood certain like to utilize them in spring for their bunny rendezvous and subsequent nest .

The first year it happened , I find the bunny babies entirely by accident as I was loosening the soil and preparing the bed for planting . Thank goodness for garden gloves because as I reach out into the corner of the planter to draw out out a wad of dry out leaves , the fuzzy layer underneath began to jiggle and move . I may have shout . Who am I kidding ? I definitely screamed . Then I promptly stuffed the leaves back into property and decide to leave that particular bed alone for another month until the bunnies had moved on .

I ’m a busybodied ma of four , so I could see how Mama Rabbit had a destiny on her plate raising those babe . Like arrange food on the tabular array ( or in the golf hole ) , keeping leaves over their head , invariably patrolling for pesky canines , and whatever PTA committee tariff she inevitably got roped into at the last bunny encounter . Evicting her during this perilous time just seemed wrong . They stay on , and my simoleons and spinach go in a calendar month late . No big whoop .

The next year , I was look it . I noticed the nest , allow it alone , and constitute my kale in a bed with no officious bunnies . unluckily , that was the Spring of 2018 , or the saltation We No Longer Speak of Because of All the Death . An unruly pack of raccoons wreak havoc on our neighborhood that year , taking out those bunny girl and a nest of infant chickadees in a birdhouse in my backyard the same week .

I do n’t know that I ’ve amply recovered from that mess . Word of our dangerous backyard must have spread because we consider very few rabbits in our railway yard for the next two yr . The hiatus was suddenly - live .

Last saltation , I came across a nest so belatedly in the season , I was sure the bunny had already grown and flown . With a joint , I poke around , pulling a few of the leave away . No drift .

I poke a petty more and pulled away a few more leave-taking . Still nothing . So , I draw the last of the dried gage forth . Big mistake !

You know when you go to the carnival and the merry andrew keep tumbling out of the clown car , and you consider there ca n’t mayhap be more merry andrew in the car , but they keep total ? That ’s the position I chance myself in . And those bunnies were pretty heavy . leap around my garden seam like it was the Thunderdome . As my husband grabbed one and tried to put it back in the hole , another would leap onto the ground where the dog would chase it . I helped by call every time one hop close to me . everlasting pandemonium .

in the end , two bunny escaped into the wild world beyond the backyard fence . Their brothers and sister waitress a few more day before venture out . And I vowed to never concern a bunny girl nest until at least June .

Jamie Seitz have a go at it a new class , almost as much as she loves her collection of Sharpies , starting a Modern book , opening a fresh jar of peanut vine butter , and the smell of laundry on a crisp , autumn morning .
