When it comes to our off - grid cabin floor plan – it ’s all about keeping the hold out place wide open .

We are grade the cabin at an angle to face the barn . This way , we can take entire advantage of an intact mean solar day ’s worth of passing sunlight . That full sun provides natural ignitor to the cabin .   More significantly , it energizes the solar panels that will power the cabin .

This past week , we start preparation of the crushed rock base for the cabin . With hopes to set up the cabin frame in the next 30 Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , we also got busy settle the story plan .

One of the things we really enjoy about our Simple House at the farm is the openness of the main floor . See : The Simple House Floor Plan

Our menage ’s small footmark of 1054 square feet has never felt low to us . In great part , that is due to the wide exposed flooring plan , and born light washing in from windows .

We wanted to continue that same conception as we plan the off - power system cabin base program .

The Off-Grid Cabin Floor Plan

We designed the storey plan based on the Highland , an existing shed model fromWeaver Barns . We love the look of the Highland , and how it fit in with our existing structures at the farm .

By modify an existing model , it also allows us to economise big money on the budget .

More than anything , we want to showcase that small livelihood spaces can be built without a huge budget . Too many times , petite home budget can exceed $ 30,000 to $ 60,000 and more . All in all , we hope to create a comfortable living space for well below those number .

conditions permitting , Weaver Barns will rear the exterior of the complex body part sometime in the next month . From there , we will take over to deploy the power , plumbing , and finish out the entire interior .

We want the finished cabin to be a slap-up place for family , ally and visitant to stay overnight , or for a weekend retirement to the farm . With that in thinker , we worked with Weaver to create a floor plan that provide for maximum use of blank , with enough sleeping area to comfortably accommodate 4 people .

Much like we have done with our smaller - sized house , we will include a patio and grill area outdoors to extend the live space . In add-on , we will admit a little veggie garden for visitor to relish as well .

The independent living area of the cabin has been left open to take full advantage of the light . A window on both the west and north side , along with a bank of spyglass instrument panel at the top of the front porch will provide lot of innate light ,

A bedroom attic overlay just over a third of the bottom storey quad , with the rest being undefendable to the ceiling above .

The area will have enough way for a draw - out queen sofa bottom and lounger . It will also include a small dining table for four . In the back , a small kitchenette will include a sinkhole and a built - in ice bureau refrigerator . Also included will be a minuscule propane stove top burner , and of course – a coffee maker !

The upper loft measuring 8 1/2′ extensive x 16′. Access to the garret will be via a skid rail ravel . When not in use , the ladder can stray up against the front of the can wall . The loft will include a poof sized seam for extra quiescency space .

The bathroom is located in the back corner of the cabin , and convey up a mere 25 substructure of total blank .   It is the only space in the entire cabin that is closed off .

The privy contain a compostable toilet to the left-hand , and a small shower to the right . We did not pose a sump in the bathroom to economize space . With a belittled sink just a few foot from the door , it made sense to keep plumbing to a lower limit .

To save space in the independent aliveness and kitchenette region , we will utilize a pocket door to close off the space .

Now that the level architectural plan is all set , our attention turns to finalise the solar system that will power it . We are passing excited to showcase it in our next off - power system cabin update in two weeks . Not only is it knock-down , but its main battery organisation can be unplugged instantly to be used for power anywhere , anytime !
